ABOUT ME
Hello, my name is Virginia (Ginny) Jones. I am originally from New Zealand and have been living in Toronto since 1978. I am married with two daughters and live in the Leslieville/Riverdale area.
My mother was a piano teacher also and she started teaching me at age 4. I studied both piano and voice with private music teachers and completed exams Grades 1 - 8 through the Royal School of Music, London, England (equivalent to Grade 10 at the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto). I have my teachers certificate in piano and my vocal performance certificate through Trinity College, London England. For many years I participated in numerous competitions throughout the country in both piano and vocal. After completing my examinations I was very fortunate to study voice under a wonderful Nun by the name of Sister Mary Leo, who also taught the famous soprano, Dame Kiri Tekanawa.
I have performed in many choirs, light musicals, Variety TV series for 3 years in NZ, jazz band, rock band, you name it. I was lucky to perform in Sister Mary Leo's choir for Prince Charles and Princess Ann. Until recently I belonged to Toronto's first rock choir, newchoir, for 11 years. We performed twice a year: December at St. Mikes College and May at Koerner Hall. In 2015 we were asked to come and perform at Carnegie Hall with Deke Sharon, DCINY in New York with choirs from all over the world. In 2016, I joined a large scale a cappella group called Soundcrowd. In April 2017 we were invited to come and perform at Carnegie Hall in New York with Deke Sharon and choirs from around the world including Germany and New Zealand.
I have been teaching piano full time for 20+ years and periodically before that.
